Colchester Zoo

By

I know this is primarily a bird site, but I thought I would share some photos I took yesterday at Colchester Zoo.
If you haven’t visited this place, I strongly recommend it. Although a relatively small zoo, it has some amazing specimens. The enclosures are huge and offer great viewing areas. All the animals appeared healthy and stimulated by their superb enclosures.
Most importantly, this zoo participates in a World-wide breeding programme for endangered species.
I have posted some bird pictures on the main site.
Here are some others……Hope you like them.

Siberian Tiger (Male)

Grey Wolf

White Rhinoceros

Fabulous photos Welshie and thank you for the info re breeding programme. In the world we live in conservation is the only way forward if we are to continue to see these wonderful creatures in the future. Love the tiger and wolf photos...as you say all look in the best of health and obviously thriving....

Thanks everyone. The Siberian Tiger is one of my all-time favourite animals....I spent best part of an hour just watching them. Their enclosure is enourmous but, as you can see, the male did agree to pose for me!

Wonderful tiger shots here Welshie....bitter sweet as they should be in their own territory wandering free but a testimony to the zoos dedication..

Thanks everyone. BB I totally agree. All animals should be in the wild, but in this sad world we live in, I guess this is the only way of ensuring our grandchildren will get to see these magnificent creatures.
