Dr Who

Dr Who

I was pretty pleased with my images of that Black Kite, but then i thought was that just a little bit too easy. Sit in a seat and let the show begin. I was sure to get one image. So a warm Saturday night and Dr Who saving the universe in the background saw me out seeking owls. Out across the flat fenland countryside to favoured spot. Not twenty minutes from the car and there it was, perhaps 80yards away and moving silently towards me. White and ghostlike, head down searching the recently cut bankside for its prey. I was ready camera out of the bag and lens cap off. 60 Yards and closingit still had not noticed me. I dropped down on one knee not wanting to stick out like a beacon in the fens. On it flew 40 Yards and closing and a silence seemed to have descended. Even the sedge warblers had ceased their endless chattering. Get the focus right, it was coming closer 20 Yards now. I held my breath this wasit a chance to impress the lads with this my ultimate Barn owl picture. I gently felt for the shutter and applied a little pressure how much closer would it come? My answer came quicker than my finger would react. A quick tilt of the wings and it plummeted down into a patch of long grass. Then quickly away into the slowly darkening evening sky. Another wing beat and i would have had that photo, but never mind what a great experience. I wonder if Dr Who saved the universe?

A really nice shot of this silent hunter. The surrounding countryside and early evening light enhance it's ghostly appearance.
You'll remember this a lot longer than an episode of Dr Who ! :))
