Beetle?

Can anyone help me with this beetle which came in with the washing to-day,I’ve looked through “Gardensafari” but cannot find it.Many thanks.Eric

For those who like me are interested in all wild life, I had a reply from the Oxford entomolgy department and was told that this is a crippled Soldier beetle (Cantharis rustica) and that it's Elytra or wing cases and flight wings have not expanded.
