Robin song

By

I just heard a beautiful song. It had backround, a blackbird and several blue tits, but the melody was a beautiful Robin song. It had all the ‘churrr’ s and trills that birdsong should have. finally the Robin itself suddenly appeared, a plump little cheerful bird that didn’t match the mournful song it was singing at all ! I could see the lower mandible (please excuse my long words) wavering.

Soon after, I could hear the two robins from my last blog, Robins , calling to each other doing their ’tik’y thing. When the nearest one came into view as a sillouette I could see the tail flicking each time it ’tik’ed.

Good description Katrina. What you describe in your last sentence is the 'jizz'* of a bird. The more you watch - the more you learn!

*The jizz of a bird refers to its general characteristics, especially its shape, posture and behaviour, as opposed to specific field marks
