Upton Warren N.R., Wychbold, North Worcs.

I thought some of you might be interested to know more about this splendid site so I’ve added a couple of shots of the pools and some more shots of the birds.

First the Moors Pool around which there are three hides.

Then the Flashes which has three hides and is separated from the Moors Pool by the Sailing Lake.

There is another small pool by the small car park at the Moors Pool which has another hide and is good for Reed and Sedge Warblers in the breeding season.

Some photos from around the site.

Avocets breed here on the Flashes every year.

Other waders including Common Sandpipers are regular visitors on passage.

Flocks of Curlew are often seen on the Flashes.

Cetti’s Warblers can be heard all over the site but are very difficult to photograph. This is the best I have been able to manage. It was taken from the small hide near the Moors car park.

As was this little Reed Warbler.

These Greylag Geese get very frisky in the spring.

…. and these Redshank seemto be geting along very well.

Occasionally these beautiful Hobbies can be found feeding on dragonflies over the pools.

The sailing pool has to be passed to get to the Flashes and can be quite good when the boats aren’t about. This Grey Heron was photograped there.

…..and that’s just a taste of the reserve. Membership of any county wildlife trust will probably get you free access but at £3 per day for non-members it’s well worth a visit anytime!

Thanks very much Dave, you've whetted my appetite even more now!!Brill pics....how far away are the hides? I tend to struggle to get good pics with my 70-300mm lens?

Some are quite far away Rob. The main hides on the flashes would probably be a problem but some birds do come in closer at times. The small hide near the car park at the Moors and those where feeders are located would be best with that lens but there are opportunites all round the site. There is a smaller hide just before the main hide at the Moors Pool where birds come in quite close at times. Good for Water Rails and Kingfishers if they are about. I always take a pair of binoculars and sometimes just enjoy watching the birds.
