No Kingfishers Today!!

Hello,
Went to my local lakes today, knowing that a kingfisher is nesting there. Unfortunately after spending 3 hrs waiting….nothing.
But the afternoon wasn’t wasted. I saw the first mallard chicks of the season.

Across the lake,on an island there was a Canadian Goose nesting, can’t wait for them to hatch!

The real surprise was the amount of Herons I saw, there must have been about 5 or 6 in and around the lake…must be the reason the kingfishers wern’t about!

Many of our old friends were around: The Swan,Robins Crested Grebes to name a few.

Even snapped an Indian Runner sunning himself!

Many other wildlife about, Butterflies and squirrels and some nice plant life.

Making my way back,I spot a coot swimming along by the bank, and take one last photo of the lake.

It’s been a pleasant afternoon, perhaps next time i’ll get the elusive kingfisher!!!!

It's really nice to see butterflies around now. Lots to return for Rob including your kingfisher, maybe an early start for that one lol :)

What a lovely blog. You have captured some lovely wildlife here Rob ..love the butterflies enjoying the Spring sunshine. Went to our spot today and saw one kingfisher flash past..probably sole survivor of the harsh winter....but good to see.

Thats the great thing Rob although we too often set out with the intention of capturing the elusive kingfisher , other things appear that always make the trip worthwhile.

Your photos are testament to that.
