New arrivals

By

I was thrilled to see two spotted flycatchers in my garden. They have been here for three or four days now and I have finally managed to get a reasonable picture of one of them.

I had a look on the RSPB site which says ’ Recent dramatic population declines puts the spotted flycatcher high on the Red List.’ so I hope they are a pair and will nest and breed.

Charming little birds years since seen one have childhood memories of balmy summer evenings watching them snap midges often to return to same perch before setting off again.

Spotted flycatcher sounds so exotic doesnt it well certainly more than the brown speckled look suggests ..we re more likely to see Pied Flycatcher here.

Fingers crossed they do nest close by sad to hear of decline our recent wet summers have hardly made their long journeys worthwhile .Lovely close up .

It was lovely seeing the nest on Springwatch, Bonkers - and I'm so excited - they're nesting here just underneath the eaves on top of a beam.
