sunny Wakefield

What a beautiful day it is today, I went to sit outside for my cuppa thinking to read my book but instead (as usually happens) I’ve been watching all the bird activity around my garden, my favourites at the moment are the siskin that appeared about a month ago, before which I’d never seen one. In the sunshine today they look amazing, flashes of yellow flitting about, so agile. The robin and dunnock are hopping around under the flowering currant thats just starting to flower and a starling has been going through his full repertoire, I’m amazed at the amount of different noises that come out of one bird! when I’m sat I wonder how many people on our estate actually sit and appreciate these simple pleasures or even notice they’re there, I get about 15 different types of bird in my garden and could sit and watch them all day.

What a great teabreak you had, Andrea, I can almost see it all through your writing. I sometimes wonder, too, how many households around me watch/feed/even notice the birds around us. Their songs, with the sunshine, is a real tonic to the start of day, now. At dusk, a blackbird never fails to alight on my garden fence and begin his repertoire. After dark, I can stand at my open back door and listen to owls in the park, and oystercatchers on the grass playing fields of a nearby school.

I agree David, not just sightings now but the busy songs too. If only more people would stop a while and take notice of the simpler things in life.
Glad you enjoyed your 'me' time Andrea :)
Lets hope March continues with fine days like this one :)

Good for you Andrea.

What is this life if full of care
We have no time to stand and stare?
Or sit in our garden, in the sun
With a cup of tea and a sticky bun.
To hear the birdsong fill the air
Please invite me - I'll bring my own chair!
