I can almost see one of those on a tripod looking out onto our garden.

As far as I know Ray, digiscopes are similar, but allow the camera to be attatched.

I'n no expert on 'scopes but I bought one and am pleasantly happy with it. The table top tripod is a bit flimsy but have have a spare photo tripod so no problem. Close focus is a bit long so just about usable in my tiny garden but beyond that is fine. Certainly a good addition to my car boot ready for trips out.

I did try holding my Nikon to the eye piece but results were not good. The eye piece is (at this price) non removable so digi attacment would be difficult.

Glad it was a good buy, John. It's worth signing up for the Aldi and Lidl newsletters. They have some fantastic bargins, usually with a 3 year guarantee. Last year, I bought a negative and slide digitiser for around £30. Equivalent models were costng twice as much at the time.

Also worth noting, both supermarkets offer 100 6"x4" photos photos free, just for registering with their online digital photo service. If you like hard copies of your images, this is a good start.

Excellent advice kenrick.

I've bought quite a bit of cycling clothing from both stores - LIDL's trainer style SPD cycling shoes are excellent value and perfect for leisure riding. I have a spare pair still in the box ready for when my 18 month old pair wear out.

I missed out on the digitiser last time round.

Thanks for the 'heads up' on the spotting scope. It was my wife's birthday and we were going out for a drive, so I just 'popped in' to Aldi (ended up with the bird box camera too!). Incidentally the same day we went to Poole Park for an ice cream and found the long-billed dowitcher. She's very tolerant of me, love her to bits!

Who? The long-billed dowitcher? Er.......sorry! I think you mean your wife. Belated Birhday greetings to her and I'm pleased you're happy with the 'goodies'.
