Bigbirdwatch...

They did it again

Yesterday I kept watch all through the day, my garden visitors included bluetits, coaltits, robin, doves, pigeons, blackbirds, sparrows, jackdaws and of course the very unruly starlings, lots of gulls flying over, they only land next door though, I think my garden is a bit too full for them to land, even little jenny wren was wandering around the pond, her favourite area……
Today whilst recording my watch I had 1 very welcome thrush, 4 blackbirds, 2 very fat pigeons, 4 doves, sparrows and starlings galore.
The little birds had gone elsewhere to eat, even my mate robin hasn`t arrived, honestly you`d think I`d learnt from past experience, it makes one feel like cheating a bit but as that would defeat the object of the exercise I`ll be good and stick to todays results..
Too late in the day now, my feathered friends are settling down before nightfall..

Bet the little ones are back tomorrow and next year I`m submitting my results on the Saturday.///

Always the way,Lincslass lol. We had a fair mix but no wren, woodies or goldfinch on the day. Maybe we should have a separate list for the ones we usually get :))

Sorry to hear that Lincslass. We chose the hour before going off to roost as apart from first thing in the morning we get most visitors then.

Same here, littlewren. More birds yesterday and when I refilled the sunflower feeder a short while ago it had not been emptied - a first.

The weather may have played a part. Here it was dull and drizzly for much of the day.

Weatherwise both days have been more or less the same, I guess I fed them too well yesterday, my daughter lives one road over from me and her results were good today, she registered lots of goldfinches and bluetits, I guess you could say we have shared our birds...

Lincslass is it wrong to record an hour both days and give the most "normal" days visitors.......???? As it happened I had the better day on the saturday when I recorded because on sunday I wasn't well and there were fewer birds.....but if it had been a good day on the sunday I would have used that recording......would love to know if this is ok or not....

I have just been on the RSPB forum(bit complicated for me I think) but I asked about using the best of the two sightings.......a reply from one member said as long as you don't add the two together it is still a count of your garden regs.....pleased about that

Thanks Littlewren, I`ll keep that in mind for future reference because as I said normally I get a lot of the little birds visiting daily, that is what makes it frustrating when they do a bunk on counting days,lol.....
