My first bird hide visit of 2011

I have decided I will get out and about more this year and visit the local bird hides…..The one I visited this morning is in a tiny mining village called Clara Vale very near to the river Tyne…It has a pond with a smaller one right outside the hide and there are plenty of full feeders and apples around. The amount of birds there was fantastic
I have decided to list every type of bird I see but will probably have missed some of the water birds as I still have a lot to learn about them so apart from the ducks the list for 3/1/11 is :
water rail ( a first)
willow tit
redpoll (a first)
great tit
blue tit
long tailed tit
coal tit
The only thing spoiling it was the disappointment at the quality of my photos….must improve…….

What a fantastic list LW and given the weather conditions you ve achieved some great results esp a Water Rail which known to be shy and secretive - a bit like us when comes to taking credit for a photo? easier to give than receive .Judging by these results you ll have to get used to getting some praise .Well done you ! lol

how kind bb I felt a little foolish at first with the others having huge cameras/lens and there was I clicking away....But they were looking for good photos of the water rail we are all there for the same purpose I suppose. I am going to get some tips on how to use my camera to the best advantage by one of the kind members ....if they can put up with my lack of understanding of all things should see my storage mess on the computer.....another thing to to keep photos stored in order

Often found that admitting to not knowing results in a lot of helpful advice even when think I do

Went to see the sea birds at an RSPB reserve and stood next to a guy who was in full camouflage kit huge lens and even had netting draped over it. With not a tree or bush in sight quite what he thought he was hiding in or from was beyond me ..

Are you familiar with exports ? By clicking into an export file and labelling them any photos you intend to download onto a site are saved into it.This does not affect your original photos.

Once you have edited and saved all photos you want to publish are in seperate labelled export files. This would save you trawling through the photos you wish to keep but dont necessarily wish to publish.

thanks BB......I know when I load my photos from camera to laptop I import...but exports.....I will have to look into this and see if I can work it out.Where will this export be...on camera or computer...see what I mean about being a numpty where techie stuff concerned lol

thanks was nice to see them all feeding is quite popular hide(nothing fancy at all though) and by the chat amongst the others there they were good at complaining if the food for the birds wasn't adequate...
MW thanks I know they aren't too bad with having quite a good camera...just makes me want to do justice to the camera and the birds

Love your photo`s Lw,big birdwatch at the end of the month, do you take part?
I am always in trouble for spreading my pics out too much according to my hubby, I import them to my pics, date tagged and info of which camera was used, therefore if I only take one pic on a particular day it gets its own folder, occasionally I will lump then together, ( when I have time or am bored) into the approppiate folder, I backup monthly to an external hardrive unless its a special occasion then I backup immediately.
I`m awaiting delivery of a new camera so will hopefully get some beaut shots soon, after a few practices obviously....

thanks lincslass....yes I do usually take part...
my hubby has never touched a computer in his life and doubt he ever will......Like you some of my pics are on their own but I do know how to put them together in a folder (sort of) I have never had backup....don't know how to and I expect thats why when my old laptop broke the photos are still stuck on there...don't know how to get them back......
