Red Kite album

thought I would gather together all of the photos I have taken of the Red Kites that have been released very near to where I live..in the north east of England…..All the local schools have become involved naming the kites that are all tagged and tracked.Sadly some have died…by accident or more worryingly poisoned. They are a magnificent bird that are scavengers as opposed to birds of prey that take live food.

Beautiful birds and as you say they are scavengers and do no harm to livestock etc as the myth goes. Saw a documentary about the school children in your area being involved and proud of their kites.I think that is wonderful.

bb....they look beautiful soaring in the blue skies but difficult to capture on camera......About 4 years ago my late mum came to live with us when diagnosed with MND....she loved watching them out of the bedroom window and was so excited one day....there were 11 soaring over the fields. Never saw as many again althought three were there today.
Hobbit it seems crazy but some farmers think they take lambs and I think gamekeepers are also to blame....
thanks robashfield......

Hi LW,
Only just spotted your Red Kite album. That's a great idea. You and lincslass are so lucky to be able to see them from your homes. You may well have read, on the captions to my photos, how many miles Val and I have to travel to be able to see them, let alone photograph them. Luckily the figures for Shropshire were up last year so it might not be long before we see them at home as we're only a couple of miles from the county border.
