There are some brilliant bird photographers out there

I’d not seen this site before and have never seen a Chough. Stunning inflight shots.

They are amazing birds, John. We often see them in the mountains in Austria and they are such fantastic acrobats in flight. In some places they view mountaineers as suppliers of food: you throw a piece of bread off a ridge and one will come swooping down from a distant peak and grab it before it has fallen very far at all.

Might I have seen them when I drove the Grossglockner High Alpine Road back in late May? The weather that day wasn't at it's best so couldn't be sure what was up there.

John, if you were the driver you shouldn't have seen anything on that road appart from the 10m of asphalt in front of the car!!!!! :-)
But, yes, there would certainly have been alpine choughs in the vicinity, they learn to go where the tourist go just as the Grossglockner marmots do.
We went along the road in September but on the public service bus from Zell. Out of interest, just how did you enjoy the drive?

DPR have just completed the voting on their "singing birds" challenge. Some quite nice shots.
