still it comes down

we have had more snow in the last five days than the whole of last winter.Thank goodness got supplies of bird food yesterday snowed in again.Makes you wonder how these poor little birds survive.Especially the little wren who appears never to touch any food put out.Put mix of sultanans, grated cheese, crushed sunflower and pumkin seeds and one of hubbys mince pies.blackbirds and thrush really enjoyed.A little piece of cheese in the thrushes beak make me laugh plenty of berries still on the hawthorn

Tucking in well there Littlewren...good mix too. Your hawthorn looks lovely with the snow and berries. Similar to you we have had lots of snow and its a full time job keeping up with the feeding and defrosting of water. Try to ensure they all feed, and can honestly say have never had so many birds in the garden as this last week.

Love the photo of the Thrush but I'm sorry you have had such heavy snowfall. Have just seen news item on the snow around the country, didn't realise it was so deep! Keep warm and safe.

Lovely photos Littlewren .. yes still falling here as we speak , dont mind a white christmas but just a little early for my liking lol Even deeper on moor tops and up in Northumberland so could be worse ..

We can only do our best for them we have an old apple tree with a hollow in we place mealworms inside for the wrens .. as you say they dont appear to like eating in company .

thanks bonkersbon. I tried dried mealworms last year but nothing seem to take them.Like your idea...do the wrens go in for them.We had one nest in our ivy last year wonder if I could find a space in there somewhere. My favourite bird the little jenny wren

When you say dried mealworms did you re - hydrate them in water littlewren? sorry if that sounds obvious thing to ask but rarely known a bird resist a moist one .Often go mad for them wrens robins wagtails starlings blackbirds often chaos when we put them out here.

Wrens will often roost together to keep warm during severe weather do you have bird boxes in the ivy ?

Amazed that your birds will not take them Littlewren ..we had a robin that would feed from our hand they loved them so much.Wouldnt bother with live ones as more expensive and hatch into small beetles if left for a while ..cant understand why they dont like as literally get mobbed here for them !

You not too far from us so wouldnt think they were posh southern birds that would turn their nose up at them lol

I just feel so guilty down here as we have barely any snow. The good fortune of living this side of the South Downs. Mind you, we didn't escape it last Winter.
