what is the name of this bird?

I see these quite often down by the canal, although to me they look a bit like sea birds??

Can you tell me what they are please?

These look like juvenile blackheaded gulls. The ones with brown plumage are under two years old.
The adults change their black head feathers in winter.

No the ones with brown feathers are the youngest S toffee. So your top bird looks older and is in his winter plumage.

They pretty much scavenge I think, also they eat worms as well as fish so there may be easy pickings in our parks etc.
Perhaps they like the friendly natives lol :))

Yes I'm sure many 'sea' gulls have never seen the sea :)
